The Sony KDL46HX723 is based around a super slim, dynamic edge lit LED design to give a consistent colour palette with superb natural hues and amazing black levels.

The dynamic element also allows control of the edge leds lightness and darkness to provide a welcome assistance during very dark or very light scenes. This brings tremendous depth to the image and substantially better contrast than previous edge lit models. With such a breadth of contrast and colour definition comes better flat screen motion control.

The Sony KDL-46HX723 is based around a 200Hz motion flow refresh rate which is a proven and tested way of dealing with fast action Blu Ray or Live events and Sports. To further refine, Sony have incorporated XR400 technology to bring even better motion to an already impressive technology.

The XR400 tech which brings the refresh rate to a pseudo 400Hz (in essence), blinks the LED backlights out of phase with the 200Hz cycle thus introducing in between each picture frame a blank black frame. The ideal behind this is that when the frames are cycling tremendously fast, the introduction of a black frame after every coloured frame, it almost gives the coloured part a black backdrop to contrast against. Result is better color emphasis and better motion to compete against the best that Plasma can offer.

The whole ethos behind the Sony KDL46HX723 is that it is multi faceted, acting not only as a widescreen tv set, but also a multimedia hub to allow connection to internet applications as well as brilliant gaming characteristics.

The Sony KDL46HX723BU is DLNA language certified meaning that you can easily network your Windows 7 PC (although if you have the technical know how Vista can be adjusted), IPhone, Smartphone or any DLNA certified equipment. If the thought of cables sends chills up your home theatre spine, then you can add a wireless dongle to the proceedings meaning wireless control and wireless connection to your BT home hub PLUS less hassle from the other half!

As a useful package add on, Sony have also included the very clever X Reality Pro Architecture to this very capable LED Flat Screen TV. Compressed data looks somewhat ragged over a bigger area like a cinema tv, so to compensate for this inaccuracy the X Reality Chip Set cleans up the image in a similar way that Dolby used to clean up the old tape cassettes, to bring less picture noise and overall a more involving HDTV experience.
The Sony KDL-46HX723BU is also a 3d 1080p TVset. Add an eyewear glasses bundle and you can soon be enjoying 3d Blu Ray, 3d gaming or even 3d every day viewing, as this Sony box of tricks also includes a useful 2d to 3d convertor meaning you can enjoy 3d to your heart’s content, even if the original film or programme footage is not in 3d 24p!?

To assist with all round every day terrestrial programme viewing, the Sony KDL46HX723 also includes Freeview hd, so any programming such as your favourite soap like Emmerdale or Eastenders, or Sports like Formula 1 can all be viewed in 1080i which produces a far superior image than normal digital PAL 576i freeview transmissions.

To round off, the Sony KDL46HX723BU has 4 HDMI connections, Scart, USB 2, PC, Optical, analogue and component, plus it can be used as a picture frame when not being used and is 4.2 cm thick.
This is truly a modern classic, that is excellent value, has a great image, and has been well thought out.

You could say the 46HX723 looks, with its comfy add on 3d eyewear, definitely and firmly to the future!
